ECB chief says instant payments could break Visa/Mastercard duopoly

The European Central Bank is considering instant payment rails to link up national card schemes as a means to break the duopoly of Visa and Mastercard. National card schemes are already the most significant schemes in Denmark and Germany for example, with over 70% share of all card transactions.
